This is my new home on the web. For those of you who have stumbled in here accidentally allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ian Gibson. I am the physical sciences research liaison librarian at the Queen Elizabeth II Library at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I have an impressive title but my job really consists of 4 tasks, doing reference work (ie helping people find things in the library/on the web/in databases/etc); teaching classes (showing how to use specific resources); selecting books/journals/web products for the library’s collection of Math, Physics and Chemistry materials; and making sure we have the resources the faculty in my subjects need to do their research. My education to this point has consisted of a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University, a B.A. in history from the University of Windsor, and an M.I.St. from the University of Toronto. My passions include history, economics, politics, current affairs and technology. Politically I’m a libertarian (though occasionally I think anarchy might be preferable).
I used to blog here. This blog will contain some of the same content that my old blog did – some talk about foreign policy, economics, cars, and wine; but this blog will also talk about my job as a librarian, science stuff, and life on the rock – should be fun. Also, I promise to be more diligent in my posting this time around.
Well that’s enough introductions lets get on with the show…
